Learn how to clean and maintain your FitBottle to keep it fresh, leak-proof, and odor-free. Simple steps for daily and deep cleaning.
Quick answer
Clean your FitBottle daily with warm soapy water, deep sanitize weekly with a baking soda soak, and always air dry upside down to prevent odors and maintain the double-wall insulation.
Why regular cleaning matters for insulated bottles
Double-walled stainless steel bottles like the FitBottle keep drinks cold for 24 hours and hot for 12, but that same insulation can trap moisture and bacteria if you skip cleaning. A quick rinse isn't enough—residue from sports drinks, coffee, or plain water builds up over time and can cause musty smells or metallic tastes.
The satin finish and leak-proof lid are durable, but harsh scrubbing or dishwasher heat can damage them. Stick to gentle tools and the steps below to preserve both performance and appearance.
How to clean and maintain your FitBottle
- Daily rinse and wash: After each use, rinse the bottle with warm water. Add a drop of mild dish soap and use a bottle brush to scrub the interior, paying attention to the bottom corners. Wash the lid separately with a small brush or sponge. Rinse thoroughly. Don't use abrasive pads or steel wool—they scratch the satin finish and may compromise the insulation seal.
- Deep sanitize weekly: Fill the bottle with warm water and add 1 tablespoon of baking soda or white vinegar. Let it soak for 15–20 minutes, then scrub with a bottle brush and rinse completely. For stubborn odors, use a mixture of warm water and a few drops of lemon juice. Avoid bleach or chlorine-based cleaners—they can react with stainless steel and leave a lingering chemical taste.
- Dry completely before storing: After washing, turn the bottle upside down on a drying rack with the lid off. Leave the lid separate and fully open to air dry. Do not reassemble the bottle while any moisture remains inside. Storing the bottle with the lid on while damp is the most common cause of mold and mildew. Always dry both parts separately.
- Check and clean the lid seal: Remove the silicone gasket from the lid (if removable) and wash it separately. Use a toothpick or soft brush to clear any debris from the groove. Reassemble only after everything is bone dry. A dirty gasket is the top reason for leaks. If the seal feels loose or cracked, replace it promptly to keep the bottle leak-proof.
- Avoid dishwasher and extreme heat: The FitBottle is not dishwasher-safe. Hand wash only with warm water and mild soap. Do not boil the bottle or place it in the freezer—the vacuum insulation can be damaged by rapid temperature changes. Hand washing takes two minutes and keeps your bottle performing well for years. The dishwasher's high heat can warp the lid and ruin the vacuum seal.
Product facts
- FitBottle: Crafted from double-walled stainless steel with a satin finish, the FitBottle keeps cold drinks chilled for 24 hours and hot drinks warm for 12. The vacuum insulation means you should never use abrasive scrubbers or bleach, which can scratch the finish and degrade the seal. Stick to soft brushes and mild cleaners.
